About the CSCP Program
The Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) program is
a new industry educational and certification program created
to meet the rapidly changing needs of the supply chain management
field.
From the manufacturing to the service industry, regardless
of whether a company is serving business or consumer markets
or is for profit or not-for-profit, the increasingly important
role of supply chain management is affecting all organizations.
Customers already expect good quality at low prices, and speed
of delivery is becoming more important. As a result, effective
supply chain management has become essential to compete successfully
in today's global marketplace.
The CSCP program takes a broad view of the field, extending
beyond internal operations to encompass all the steps throughout
the supply chain—from the supplier, through the company,
to the end consumer—and provides you with the knowledge
to effectively manage the integration of these activities
to maximize a company's value chain.

Becoming a CSCP candidate
To be eligible for the CSCP exam, a candidate must meet
one of the following criteria listed below. Unlike the CPIM
exams, you cannot directly register to take the exam. You
must first apply to take the exam and receive your “authorization
to test” letter from APICS before you register for the
exam. It is important to build this process into the leadtime
for exam registration. The criteria needed are one of the
following:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus two years
of related business experience, or
• CPIM, CFPIM, CIRM, or C.P.M. designation plus two
years of related business experience, or
• Five years of related business experience.
How to Prepare for the Exam
Whether or not you choose to self-study for the exam or
take a course, you will need to purchase the CSCP Learning
System to prepare for the exam. The CSCP Learning System consists
of both printed and online material. The printed material
(totaling about 800 pages) includes one book in each of the
four CSCP modules:
• Supply Chain Management Fundamentals
• Building Competitive Operations, Planning, and
Logistics
• Managing Customer and Supplier Relationships
• Using Information Technology to Enable Supply Chain
Management
The online material consists of:
• Pre- and Post-tests

Differences between CPIM and CSCP
• CPIM is 5 exams vs. one exam for CSCP.
• Both the CPIM and CSCP certifications must be maintained.
Maintenance requirements for CSCP have not yet been developed
by APICS.
• The CPIM exam is based on many educational references
as noted in the Exam Content Manual (Stock # 09051). CPIM
Review Courses have a Participant Guide which summarizes the
references. The CSCP exam is based on the four modules of
the CSCP Learning System. There are no external references
for the CSCP course of study.
• The CPIM exams are electronic-based, can be taken
any time the applicant can schedule it with the test provider,
and your exam results are immediate. The CSCP exam is a paper/pencil
test offered only on certain dates and locations and your
exam results will take a few weeks. The Phoenix Chapter will
schedule CSCP courses to complete about two weeks prior to
the exam while CPIM courses are scheduled without regard for
exam dates.
• The CPIM scope of study is from inside the company
while the CSCP scope of study includes the entire supply chain
from suppliers, to inside the company, to customers, and back
to inside the company (returns, repairs, support, etc). Refer
