How to Earn your CPIM Certification
Certification occurs when you have passed all five certification
examinations. The five modules are: Basics of Supply Chain
Management (BSCM), Master Planning of Resources (MPR), Detailed
Scheduling and Planning (DSP), Execution and Control of Operations
(ECO), and Strategic Management of Resources (SMR). The examinations
consist of 105 multiple-choice questions for BSCM and 75 multiple-choice
questions for the other four modules. There is a time limit
of three hours for each examination. After you have passed
the fifth examination, your certification will be sent out
by the APICS Association, not the Chapter, and occurs within
45 days after you pass your last examination.
APICS has retained the services of Pearson
VUE (formerly Promissor) to administer the CPIM exam by
computer. Pearson VUE locations are subject to change and
are listed on their website.
How to Register for Examinations
1. Download and print the CPIM
Registration Bulletin. This gives full instructions on
the registration procedures.
2. Obtain an APICS Customer Number. If you are already an
APICS member, your membership number is your APICS Customer
Number. The cost for each examination is $120.00* and your
membership must be active at the time you register for the
exam to qualify for the member price. You should become a
member at least 30 days prior to registering for the exam.
If you are not an APICS member and have never placed an order
with APICS call APICS customer support at 1-800-444-APICS
(2742) to have a Customer Number assigned to you. Your APICS
Customer Number remains the same throughout the certification
process. Please keep it on file and use it whenever you register
for exams or order materials. *Pricing valid as of July
2009; subject to change.
3. Schedule the examination. You must register at least four
days prior to the test. You may register online on the Pearson
VUE website.
4. Check your confirmation card (or email) when it arrives.
How to Prepare for Examinations
A full preparation would include studying all “primary
references” and taking the Certification Review Courses
presented by the Phoenix Chapter. However, time, budget, and
accumulated knowledge usually dictate what shortcuts are taken.
Order the Exam Content Manual (Stock # 09051) from APICS and
review it thoroughly. This publication is your primary guide
for all five CPIM certification exams. While ordering the
Exam Content Manual, ask APICS to include the free Educational
Resources Catalog (Stock # 01041).
Certification Review Courses: The preparation you need to
pass the examinations depends upon your education, experience,
and prior exposure to the APICS body of knowledge. You will
prepare for these exams by self study or by taking the Certification
Review Courses presented by the Phoenix Chapter. Please refer
to the information below for the most current schedule of
Certification Review courses.
